Alice Springs Desert Park at Australia Adventures

Alice Springs Desert Park - The Park introduces visitors to the incredible but subtle richness of Australia's arid zone. Designed to move well beyond the boundaries of traditional zoos, botanic gardens and museums, the park has adopted a holistic "habitat-based and story driven" approach. Discover the desert in its entirety; the landscapes, animals and plants, and their traditional use and management by Aboriginal people. This has been recognized by experts in the field including Sir David Attenborough who claimed "There is no museum or wildlife park in the world that could match it". The Park is just 10 minutes drive, or a short bike ride from the centre of Alice Springs, with local tour operators servicing the park daily. On arrival, a spectacular cinematic journey will take you through 4,500 million years of desert evolution. Along an easy 1.6 kilometre walking path explore the 3 major habitats - Desert Rivers, Sand Country and Woodland, featuring over 120 species of animals and 350 species of plants. Witness a free-flying birds of prey display and see rare and endangered animals in the largest desert nocturnal house in the world. Professional guides present aspects of life in the desert, including Aboriginal use of resources, bush foods and medicines. For those with just a few days in Central Australia, the Park provides you with the opportunity to discover the diversity of the outback region in a convenient location. For those fortunate to have more time to explore the outback, the Park is a rewarding introduction ensuring you discover the world behind the diverse landscapes. The Desert Park is breaking new ground in the display and interpretation of the traditional use of plants and animals by Aboriginal people to help you to appreciate their culture. Our guide presentations and interpretation will also teach you where to look and what to listen for, how to locate and identify the unique animals and plants and appreciate the myriad of stories that have evolved from this land.
