At Nitmiluk National Park during
the Dry season, visitors can hire canoes to explore the Katherine River’s
magnificent system of 13 gorges. Most of these gorges are separated by rock
sections, some of which may require short portages. For more adventurous paddlers, exciting hardcore river trips are
available in various parts of
The Top End. These are not difficult journeys from
a technical point of view, but require that paddlers are totally self-sufficient
and aware of the dangers posed by estuarine or saltwater crocodiles. Local
advice should be sought in advance of any trip.
