Close to the state capital, the
Brisbane River offers enjoyable kayaking in its upper reaches. To the north, a
pleasant and relaxing paddling holiday can be enjoyed on the tannin-stained
Upper Noosa River, which passes through part of Cooloola-Great Sandy National
Park. Higher volumes of water in the rivers of the far north create excellent
conditions for white-water rafting. Among the waterways popular with commercial
rafting operators are the Tully, North Johnstone and Russell rivers.
