There’s no shortage of accessible rock in the Territory, but the
intense heat can be a major obstacle. Despite this,
Alice Springs based
climbers think nothing of driving 124 miles to Glen Helen Gorge for a
weekend’s climbing, a spot that at least offers the opportunity for a
post-climb swim in the river at the base of the cliffs. Technical rock
climbing is not allowed in Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Cutta Cutta Caves Nature Park southeast of Katherine has several
caves which can be explored on guided tours.
