An abundance of exciting climbing is available in
Western Australia, but the most popular destinations are a long way apart. The
greatest concentration is in the south and south-west; among the most
enjoyable venues are the sea-cliffs of West Cape Howe, the Gap and Willyabrup. The granite
domes of the Porongurup Ranges also offer good sport, while greater challenges
can be found on Bluff Knoll in the Stirling Ranges. The Western Australian outback contains countless cliffs, but
often the rock is very unstable and the climate too hot for comfortable
climbing. One area that is a long way from
Perth but gaining popularity among
climbers is Kalbarri National Park, which offers high-quality climbing and is
conveniently situated close to Kalbarri township.
