Some of
Victoria’s most popular walking areas become a winter
playground for cross-country skiers. When under snow, Mount Buffalo
National Park offers beautiful, relatively gentle ski-touring, while in
Alpine National Park the backcountry skiing can be as serious ad
wide-ranging as you want to make it. A variety of short day-trips depart
from Falls Creek and Mount Hotham, and extended excursions take in areas such as the Bogong High
Plains. There are also several highly technical ski routes, including the
traverse of Mount Feathertop. Daytrippers from
Melbourne often head for the
cross-country ski resort of Lake Mountain which is located less than two hours
from the city and has over 43 miles of trails.
